And it's off! Zoom zoom zoom!

Oh no! The postman lost your letter. Please try again.

I was born in England, near Hastings, but grew up in the South of France. I met, fell in love with and married my now husband after returning to the UK. We now live in Belgium where our daughter, Amélie, was born in 2005.

I am a lawyer by profession but like pretending to be a photographer in my spare time. I first became properly interested in photography shortly after Amélie's birth but that interest has since developed into a bit of an all-consuming passion. I love trying to capture the happiness she brings me and her uninhibited wonder at the world that surrounds us. I don't want to forget a single moment of this incredible journey.

I shoot with a digital Canon SLR camera and edit my pictures in PhotoShop. If you have any questions about my pictures, please don't hesitate to leave me a comment and I'll do my best to help. That being said, I know I still have lots and lots to learn so constructive feedback is really appreciated.

Anyway, that's enough about me. How are you?

(the pictures of me in the blond wig were taken by Tara Leigh, an inspiration and someone I am lucky to be able to call a friend - give her site a visit, you won't be disappointed! - and my logo was designed by the fabulous Matthew Nelson)

Clowns are Scary!

Yesterday evening, as she was getting into bed, Amélie suddenly announced that she HAD to have a clown outfit for school today. No no no no no! I cannot make a clown outfit in an hour without any warning or any materials or… And anyway, her teacher would surely have said something. Right? No no, Amélie must been confused… But she seemed so adamant, so convinced that she absolutely had to go to school as a clown. She was distraught. It took me nearly an hour to comfort her and to convince her that I didn’t need to make a clown outfit that very moment. Phew, thought I. That was close. She’ll forget all about it by morning… “Mama, where’s my clown outfit?” These were the first words out of her mouth this morning. She hadn’t even opened her eyes yet!  And we were off again. “Amélie – you do not need a clown outfit for today!” – “Yes. I. DO! Madame Sandrine said it’s clown day today! All my friends will have clown outfits!” and so on and so on… I went from confident (no way – someone would have told us) to a complete wreck (I am the worst mother in the world! My daughter will be the only one in her class without a clown outfit!). But it was too late by then to do anything about it so we got her dressed (with some difficulty) and took her to school. I was very apprehensive… But… NO CLOWN OUTFITS! Not one to be seen. Not anywhere! Yes! Not a terrible mother after all. But I was traumatised enough (pathetic, I know) to seek out her teacher for a chat. It turns out they had been drawing clowns yesterday and talking about how they would dress up for Carnaval next week. I shall repeat that: next week! Can you imagine if she had turned up with full face-makeup and over-sized shoes today?! I would have felt very very silly indeed and the teachers would finally have had their proof that I was completely insane. Haha! Anyway, Amélie was still keen this evening so we practiced the face-paints when we got home. You know, just to make sure we know what we’re doing for NEXT WEEK.

02/02/2010 - 9:34 pm amanda - The sweetest clown I ever did see

03/02/2010 - 4:13 pm doodlebug - What a cute clown! May I suggest that you decrease the size of her muzzle (white mouth area) so that it is no wider than her eyes and add a little blush spot on her cheeks. She's beautiful!

07/02/2010 - 7:52 pm Grumpette - Creepy - I'm scared anyway! Glad you've found the camera again.

09/02/2010 - 9:37 pm Ingrid - As Isabella would say this is the best clown ever! And then she'd wink at the little girl with the curly hair and the red little nose and probably smile and laugh..just like her mama just did. Oh your story brought guilt to the surface of my own life :) Yes..how many times have I felt as if somewhere along the line I missed something all the other parents had heard. Whew..close call.

07/05/2010 - 6:08 pm diyosa - i love these photos and our kids. I deal with this self questioning all the time, love the way you described it
